There is nothing romantic about mental illness, people.I love this book, but it has never struck me as a romance. Reading it again after many years, I was struck by how flat-out insane all the Earnshaws are, going back to the first one we meet, Catherine's father. Erratic behavior, alcoholism, manic depression or bipolar disorder, possible schizophrenia, the works. I didn't remember Cathy's brother trying to make Nelly D. practically fellate a knife during the same episode where he THREW HIS BABY OFF THE SECOND STORY LANDING. Total crazyballs family, every single one of them. And wow, that is so much more interesting than the "love story" element of the book.
