I liked the first book in this series, but I loved this one. The characters have evolved realistically. The plot/mythology has deepened and grown more complex, with more at stake. I loved all the characters this time around. It is not one of those books where all sorts of easily avoided mess happens because characters are unnecessarily keeping secrets from each other. Sophie might hold out briefly, but she always just gives the information she has to the people who need it. Refreshing. Her friendship with Jenna is touching, and I ended up really loving Sophie's dad too. All in all, well-paced and interesting plot, likable characters, hot romance, well thought-out magical world, a good read.
