Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children - Ransom Riggs I expected to love this book. The found photographs, the use of the word "peculiar" (one of my favorite words) made it seem like a sure thing. I did like it quite a bit. But it cannot be denied that when crawling into bed with this book at night, I did not feel the need to stay up late and read. I would read a little, then go off to sleep. I wasn't driven to read it the way I am with books I really love. Still, I'd recommend it. It is very cool how the author used spooky found photos. The photos weren't produced for the book, but taken from private collections of photos rescued from various flea markets and trash heaps, put together, and recontextualized for the story. That alone is worth giving it a read. The story and the characters are pretty good, and the writer shows promise.
